Congratulations to all of our skaters who participated in Showtime on Ice. You did a wonderful job! And we extend a big thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who made this year's show a big success!
This past weekend many of you came to the annual banquet. We all had a lot of fun at Sing Sing with piano players and at Elitch Gardens where we ended the day with some ice cream. Congratulations to everyone who passed tests this year. Great job, skaters!

Setting Competitive Goals
|
You're about to enter the competitive skating season, and I'm sure you all have goals and aspirations for the coming season - skate a clean program, qualify for the final round of a competition, or qualify at Southwesterns. This season you're likely to be judged under the new international scoring system, and this provides you with a great opportunity.
You may find it helpful to focus more tightly on your goals and make them more process oriented. Here's how.
1. Talk to your coach about creating a scoring range for your program based on the degree of difficulty of the various elements and how accomplished you are at them. Turn this into a scoring range from a minimum score you're clearly capable of achieving up to a score you'd achieve if you skate your best program ever. Focus on skating a personal best program.
2. When the judges score you, you'll be given some great information about what elements need more polishing, and exactly what polishing to do.
3. Design your practices around maintaining your strengths, polishing your weaknesses and regularly skating your program all the way through to mimic competitive conditions.
4. Off ice, use mental rehearsal to see yourself skating a personal best program several times a week.
5. When skating in competition, focus on accumulating your score by skating the next element well rather than noticing how you're losing points.
Have a great competitive season. I'll be rooting for you along with your coach, parents, family and friends.

At the banquet we debuted our brand new logo. Denver FSC kept the skate, which is important to our younger skaters and added script lettering. You will see this new logo on many items the club produces during the year.
